The Greene County Schools board of education made it “official” that an election will be held Sept. 13 to consider issuing $19.4 million in general obligation bonds for a school construction/renovation project.
The volunteer Pay It Forward Committee had submitted to district business manager Brenda Muir petitions with 614 signatures calling for the special election. The board at its July 20 meeting approved the needed resolution to submit to the county auditor to call the election.
The ballot specifies that the bonds would provide funds to “construct classroom additions, remodel, repair, improve, furnish and equip the current pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade school into a pre-kindergarten through 4tgh grade school building; to construct a competition gymnasium and classroom additions, remodel, repair, improve, furnish and equip the current 9th through 12th grade school into a 5th through 12th grade school building and administrative offices; and to improve the sites?”
Voters will also elect a board member to fill the remaining term of office that became vacant on the resignation of Susan Burkett last January. Mike Dennhardt was appointed to fill the position until the next election. Burkett’s term was set to expire in 2017; voters will elect someone to complete the term.
Nominating petitions will be available at the school administrative building at 204 W. Madison St in Jefferson. The deadline for returning nominating petitions is Aug. 19 at 5 pm.
